Bahn Thai: Good Food, Nice Atmosphereby Jennifer Ordway |
||||
Bahn Thai is located in the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle, just north of the Space Needle and Seattle Center. I stumbled upon this restaurant with a friend by chance one Saturday after the thai restaurant we planned on going to for lunch was closed for weekend lunch. Before even opening the door, we immediately noticed the extravagantly painted front of building! Even the door was painted so it was hard for us to find where we should enter! Once we realized we could enter this colorful front door, we entered a dimly lit room that looked quite fancy in contrast to our casual lunchtime taste. We considered leaving, but we decided to give it a try. The service was sufficient and our waitress polite and attentive but not overbearing. The food was good, but not the best I've had. Nevertheless, it was better than most Thai restaurants in Seattle. I was also impressed with the "kick" of the spice. I like my food hot and have a hard time getting Thai restaurants to make my food spicy enough, but Bahn Thai did not hold back. Prices were mid-range. Simple Thai lunches were just over $8, but most dishes were $12-$15, which is much too pricey for a lunch menu in my opinion. They also had no lunch specials that day, which disappointed this thrifty diner. A unique feature of the restaurant is the hilarious drink/dessert menu sitting on the table. While it didn't convince us to try anything, my friend and I had a long hearty laugh together. The menu was not meant to be funny, but I guarantee you'll be laughing if you read through this menu! Overall, Bahn Thai is a nice Thai restaurant if you don't mind the prices. It has a nice atmosphere, sufficient service, and good food.
